Important Message To Our Patrons: We have suspended all antique furniture and accessory sales effective immediately. Most of the inventory appearing on our website has been sold and we are unsure at this juncture what the future holds for us as a true antique furniture dealer. Both our physical and virtual store sales have been trending downward since the mid 2000's and we are frankly now at a level that no longer makes it economically viable to continue to market our products in this fashion. We are not alone in this respect as many other antique dealers have met similar fates. The marketplace has been flooded with old furniture pieces that are not antiques and new furniture which has been finished to look old at prices that are very often lower than what we must pay to buy genuine antiques and then of course there is the expense of refurbishing or restoring them. At the same time, personal tastes appear to be changing. The investment aspect of a true antique through appreciation rather than the typical depreciaition suffered by other furniture, no longer seems to be a prime factor in the buying motives of the majority of furniture buyers. The old adage that wealth is built by accumulating things that appreciate not depreciate is one that has perhaps been replaced by thinking that focuses on a much shorter perspective. Our hearts are simply not into the prospect of changing our product mix to meet this new trend in furniture demand and while we are sure that a market for true antique furniture continues to exist albeit at a reduced level, our locale and the internet are no longer the vehicles they once were for success. We are disappointed to say the least because we really enjoyed the hunt for great antique pieces, the restoration work and the beauty of the final product we sold. We took pride in that endeavor and experienced great satisfaction through the many wonderful customers who supported us throughout the years. We cannot thank them enough.

 

Shipping and Delivery

Tredwood will arrange packing, shipping and insurance. For large furniture items one may expect to pay $300 to $600 and up for packing, shipping and insurance depending on size, distance and method shipped. Smaller furniture items can usually be packed, insured and shipped for less than $175 in the East and Midwest and under $250 beyond those areas to the West Coast. Accessory size items can usually be packed, shipped and insured for under $50. Please remember, Tredwood is responsible for merchandise only while it is in Tredwood's possession. Our shipping charge is basically a pass through. Our customers pay for packing, shipping and insurance charges only. We add nothing and we make nothing on shipping. We also ship outside the United States at an additional cost.

We are told by our shipping company to expect 10 to 14 days for pick-up, packing and shipping to occur and another 10 to 14 days for transit and delivery (expect slightly longer times for overseas delivery). Our domestic shipping experience has told us that even for large pieces it takes a little less time than this and for small furniture items and accessory sized items, it usually takes about half this time.

Professional Shippers. No Hidden Charges

Some antique dealers pack their own items to either make money or show a savings to the customer. We have made a conscious decision NOT to do that. We prefer to let professionals who know the packing and shipping business handle the packing and shipping of our antiques. We use professionals who possess the training, experience and the proper equipment and packing materials to do the job correctly. It makes no sense to us to extend time and effort searching for, restoring and marketing wonderful, beautiful antiques to risk it all in the last, most critical part of the business transaction - packing and shipping. We also insure to full sale value plus the cost of the packing/shipping in case the piece is lost. No matter what happens, our customers are made whole. We have never had any damage or for that matter, a complaint and most importantly, their will never be a challenge to a damage claim if and when one occurs because we improperly packed the antique.

If you simply want to talk to us, you may reach us by telephone, e-mail or come visit in person (see below for information on how to reach us).  We gladly accept Personal Checks, Cashier Checks, Money Orders and PayPal for purchases and we do charge sales tax wherever it is required.

Our antiques are displayed at Porta Portese, an upscale gift and antique mall located on historic, restored  Ram Cat Alley in Seneca, South Carolina. It's a great store, a charming street and a wonderful way to spend part of your day browsing all the shops and restaurants. We recommend one of Evelyn's homemade soups along with a fresh sandwich at Circa 1930, a lovely cafe inside Porta Portese furnished with vintage and antique pieces. Then browse the store.
